After the orange cap for the leading run-scorer now its the purple cap for the highest wicket-taker in the DLF Indian Premier League. After many policies that rewarded the batsmen for the maximum sixes, orange cap for the scoring runs and pitch being tailor made to suit batsmen, this purple cap for the leading wicket-taker has come as a solace for the bowlers who have taken quite a hitting in the tournament and badly need some recognition.

Vijay Mallaya the owner of Royal Challengers Bangalore, the second costliest team in the DLF Indian Premier League is apparently upset with his team after a slew of defeats. Talking to press persons at the venue of Turkish GP Mallaya said, he had entrusted the team selection process to sacked CEO Charu Sharma and captain Rahul Dravid but they have not performed well thus far.
The poor Deccan Chargers team got another blow when its captain VVS Laxman sustained a hairline fracture and was ruled out of the remaining IPL matches. It has come as a big blow for the Hyderabad based team because Laxman was looking good with the bad and was set to score some big runs. The team-management has announced Adam Gilchrist as the captain of the team for the rest of the tournament and Rohit Sharma will be the vice-captain. Ironically the top run getters in IPL Gilchrist and Rohit are both from Deccan Chargers while their team has plunged to the bottom of the table with just two wins from 9 matches.
The DLF Indian Premier League is a Twenty-20 cricket tournament created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, much akin to the English Premier League. Eight teams from all over the country play against each other for the top honour. Each team can include four foreign players in addition to the icon players and local youngsters. Each team will pay against the other seven teams in one home and one away match and at the end of the group stage the top four will proceed to the semi-finals.
